As with all Alienware notebooks, this machine is based on an existing platform from a large Taiwanese ODM. We have seen them lining up Uniwill and Clevo, this one is based on an Arima chasis, the Arima W830. It features powerfull SLI in a 17" notebook and has been adapted with the Uniwill glowing head.
Here's something we don't get... The Alienware glowing head is the most obvious part of the branding effort, this is basically why you pay a substantial fee for The Name. And what does it do? It increases the thickness of the notebook substantially. One of the key questions in notebook selection (how heavy is it? how long does the battery last? what's the size of the screen?) and people jump to pay a premium on a notebook that is also sold in discount stores and that is thinner. Oh well.
This notebook has also been sold as Ahtec Storm 830, Gericom Hollywood W830, Evesham Quest Nemesis and probably a few others. The Alienware m9700 is the 7900GS incarnation, the m9750 has the 7950GTX. We assume the differences are only in the actual card installed but we could be wrong.
While we currently only sell refurbed 7900GS cards for a single card configuration, we'd love to try other cards. If you are interested in giving a card a run, let us know.
If you are just looking for a quick fix, the below card may be the thing for you.
As these are refurbished cards, we guarantee they are fully functional on reception but we do not offer a one year warranty on these cards. The below link may only be used to purchase a card for the W830 chasis. |
