Guide on how to replace the graphics card in the Clevo m571TU
Kris Verbeeck, based on pictures and upgrade from Alexander Rennerfelt
The slightly thinner sibling of the D900 series, this Clevo machine has less off the insane options but has a more sensible formfactor in return.
While nobody will label this 'small' or 'ultraportable' one could consider carrying it around. While Clevo has used their own proprietary modular format in the past, they are now adopting MXM and are leading and pioneering it. The introduction of a Type IV MXM card seems almost tailor made for Clevo: who else would need such an over-the-top format that ridicules the much-sought after "smaller, cooler" credo the entire industry chases? Clevo does not only seek a performance level equalled by few in the industry, it does so with a level of quality equaled by even less. The thermal solution to cool the biggest graphics cards and processors that can be found in a mobile package are top notch and compromiseless. Simply comparing another high end gaming notebook from a different brand is revealing. Other brands manage with less heatpipes, less copper, less local cooling, smaller radiators, fans... Obviously, these machines also work but if you have the choice...
Yet, a lot of the people out there never heard of Clevo, not even if they are typing on one of their
machines. Clevo does not often market their notebooks under their own name, they sell their gear to "Boutique Stores" who then customise it. This is sometimes no more than just applying their badge while others go through great lenghts to differentiate and offer something that is unique. This machine has been marketed under a lot of brands. The perfect example of this approach is, off course, Alienware. Their tell-tale glowing Alien head is no more than a cover with a LED behind it on a Clevo, Arima or Uniwill chasis. Our Beta tester had a Zepto incarnation. This means that even though compatibility can be assumed, it can not be guaranteed for other vendors and/or hardware revisions. The tested machine ran on bios version "1.000.09" and had the "Hydra A17" motherboard revision. m570/1TU and RU machines are supposed both to be compatible. They have been marketed as Bangho m-book GX, Blackthorne Power Nemesis Elite, Orange Mamba, Cizmo CX1730, Chili Green Mobilitas CU, Connoiseur Connoi M570RU, Cyber System SR17/SX17, DevilTech HellFire/Devilbook 8800, DPC Tech Nosferatu, Extreme PC Aviator SR7, Faith Progress GXT, Hypersonic Aviator FR7, Killernotebooks Executioner-SR, Kobalt Mojave IX, Mailibal Satori, M-Tech M570RU, Mouse COmputer m-book GX, Nexoc E705III, Notebook Guru M570RU, Novatech X80R, Overam Mirage 8793, PC Kounou Lesance, PC Microworks Horizon, Pioneer Computers M57T and R, Plaisio Dominus, Pro Star 5729, Rock Extreme 770, Sager NP5793, Two Top VIP Note WXS, XXODD Xni570RU, Vigor Artorius Pro, Voodoo PC Envy H:172 and Widow PC Sting 817D2. And probably a lot others but you get the picture.
Please note that Clevo has been using a chasis that looks like this for a long time but only the TU and RU versions feature MXM. Before, Clevo used their own proprietary format (as pictured).
Our tester just send us the pictures but in fact they are pretty straight forward...
