Guide on how to upgrade the graphics card of the Quanta KN1 notebook
Kris Verbeeck
While "Quanta" is not exactly a household name, many of the products they make are probably well known. Quanta serves as ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) for high profile companies like Dell, HP, Gateway or Apple. From time to time, they also market notebooks under their own brand, presumably to advertise their technology and to make a buck or two. The KN1 has been sold as a whitebook to a lot of resellers, some of whom have rebranded it. It has been sold through ISTNC, Powernotebooks (PowerPro G3:8), Gericom (Supersonic 1st), Airis (N995), Advent (7098), Optima (Centoris KN), Atic, Datron, Nexlink, Sahara, Sabio Digital and probably a lot of others.
We are currently waiting for our assembly guide to come in, but we know already our 8600GT works just fine. If you can't wait to order, you might want to check this assembly guide. Furthermore, one of our readers was kind enough to share his pictures of a nVidia 7400 replacement operation. The actual al procedure might differ a bit but at least it should give a pretty decent idea..
You can find appropriate drivers at laptopvideo2go.com.
